Talk on ‘healthy lungs after 60’ in sector 40
Saturday, 4th October 2025

Sector 40 RWA organised a health talk in the community centre. We were very fortunate to have Dr Belal Bin Asaf, an internationally acclaimed Chest Oncologist surgeon and Lung transplant specialist from a leading hospital, as the speaker. His topic was ‘ Healthy lungs after 60…..Your key to active living’. He has conducted various studies on the impact of air pollution on our health. The revelations were shocking. According to the study each individual is inhaling smoke equal to one cigarette per day. He also emphasised upon the need to take care of our lungs along with our heart. He stressed upon the need to take measures to control air pollution at all the levels…be it our homes, offices, roads or parks. One thing that our authorities can do is to cover all the naked land with grass plantation to avoid loose dust particles float in air resulting in us inhaling bad quality air. We should check the AQI levels before stepping out. Use of N95 mask reduces the risk of lungs getting smoky. The images of lungs Dr Bilal showed made everyone present worried . Image of lungs of a 14 years old teenager showed black spots all over whereas the healthy lungs are pink in colour. This teenager is not smoking . He is only breathing in the normal air. Dr Bilal also urged the audience to include breathing exercises in their routine to strengthen the lungs along with healthy balanced meals. It is high time we take charge of the situation and do our bit to safeguard ourselves and our children.
